ABOUT US

Our Story Began In 2003 . . .

. . . when our founder, Jill Pollack, decided that she wanted to spend more time in the company of other writers and focus on her fiction. While teaching at another institution, Jill got the idea for StoryStudio and opened the doors in 2003 with just four students.

In 2007, we moved to our current home, a unique loft space in the vibrant business corridor on North Ravenswood Avenue.

Today, StoryStudio . . .

now operates as a 501c3 public charity through our parent organization Stories Matter Foundation, which was established in 2015 by StoryStudio Founder Jill Pollack. Stories Matter Foundation now includes StoryStudio Chicago, the Chicago Review of Books, the Chicago Stories Project, and a variety of ongoing events, festivals, and initiatives. StoryStudio welcomes more than 1,200 writers each year.

In 2023, we’re celebrating our 20th Anniversary! Follow along to see how we’re honoring all the years past, and planning for all that’s ahead.
