Students will take part in discussion and writing exercises to learn the rules of picture book writing, common story arcs, and how to get published in this popular market. You’ll get an insider’s view and connect to a community of writers interested in the craft of creating stories specifically for young children.

About Juliet Bond

Juliet C. Bond, LCSW is a children's book writer and playwright who works at Piven Theatre Workshop. Her first picture book, Sam’s Sister, was published in 2005 and has sold over 50,000 copies. Her latest books for kids include a young reader series called Jazzy's Quest. The third book in the Jazzy series was published in 2019. In 2013, she collaborated with Newberry winner Joyce Sidman to publish the stage adaptation of This is Just to Say. Juliet’s shorter works can be found in The Prairie Wind, Chicken Soup for the Soul and The Copperfield Review. Juliet served as the Welcome Coordinator for The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, in Illinois, for four years, and has had the pleasure of working under the tutelage of award winning authors including; Jane Yolen, Jane Hamilton, Laurie Lawlor, and Audrey Niffinegger.
