Description

Developing characters and scenes in your fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction work can be as simple as recalling your favorite food memories. Think of any recipe you love to make, food you love to eat, or favorite food your grandmother made, now give this to your character and incorporate it into your story, and *chef’s kiss*–you’ve got it.

In this craft seminar, we are going to read through a few works: fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, all centered around food and recipes. We will take a quick dive into authors and poets like Donald Hall, Lewis Carroll, Sarah Kachelman, Alice B. Toklas, and Virginia Woolf. Additionally, we will bring our favorite recipe to class, take a moment to talk about it, and use it as a generative writing exercise or apply it to a work in progress.
