Description

Story, plot, and structure are three interrelated elements of fiction and nonfiction. Are you making the best choices with them in your writing?
This two-hour course will give you an opportunity to take a close look at excerpts from recent notable novels and memoirs that make creative use of these elements. In our discussions, we’ll explore how writers have met and defied expectations. And we’ll engage in writing exercises related to these books that serve your work.
Some texts covered in class: Hernan Diaz’s Trust, and Angie Cruz’s How Not to Drown in a Glass of Water, Nicole Chung’s A Living Remedy, and Maggie Smith’s You Could Make This Place Beautiful.
