Description
This one-night course will explore how poems describe, interpret, and interact with visual art. We’ll pay specific attention to methods beyond simple or literal description – whether by narrating a story that happens “off-stage” (or out of frame) or through meditating on an image from the artwork or an association it brings to our minds. In any case, we’ll consider our work one of conversation – between each other, our poems, and the artwork currently on exhibition.
I’ll distribute readings ahead of time (just so folks can have access on their devices – no homework!) and we’ll read and discuss published poems and prose as well as drafting our own.
This class is for poets and prose writers alike. It will take place at an art gallery.
