Are you feeling stuck in the middle of a story? Or ready to start something new but not sure where to begin? Want to reinvigorate your romance with your creative self?

Whether you are a comics-creating pro, an absent-minded doodler, or someone terrified but intrigued by the power of a #2HB, this is the class for you. We’ll take playfulness seriously as a tool for unlocking new stories and new dimensions of our creative lives. Laura Grothaus will share her experiences as a writer and visual artist who witnesses some of the most exciting work bubbling up in the spaces between mediums. With a mix of discussion and exercises, students will have the opportunity to generate stories and leave with resources to keep their playfulness and writing alive.

About Laura Grothaus

Laura Grothaus is a writer and visual artist living in Baltimore, the land of the Susquehannock and Piscataway-Conoy. Her writing has been featured by or is forthcoming in BUST, Strange Horizons, The Cincinnati Review, American Short Fiction, Poetry Northwest, Ninth Letter, Pleiades, and Fairytale Review. Kelly Link selected her as the winner of the 2024 American Short Fiction Halifax Ranch Prize, and her sculptures of altered books have beens supported by grants from the Maryland State Art Council. Passionate about collaboration, her projects with other artists have spawned theatre about desire, workshops about memory maps, and more. She’s at work on a novel and collection of poems.
