CLASS INFO
For one night, we ask that you suspend everything you have ever learned in any personal narrative or writing class you have taken. This one-night workshop is not about teaching you how to write a story or how to present a story or structure one into an outline for submission to a show, class, or publication.
In this workshop, we are going digging, and all you need to bring are your play clothes and an open mind. We are going on a content hunt and what we find at every turn is completely up to you and your classmates.
The Lily Be Method of teaching is about experience, insight, generosity and the firmness of the instructor and the faith and trust of a storyteller to bravely and confidently walk a new path of discovery; revealing what we hide from ourselves, what we hide from others, and what preserves our inauthenticity.
Mechanically, The URLife storytelling game approach of teaching is simple: Pick a Theme, assign a Prompt, and generate a three-minute story from thin air. That’s it. From a process point of view, it’s linear, straightforward and surprisingly fun and breathtakingly simple.
Everyone in the class will work together to not only discover their stories, but also characters, scenes, feelings, moods, tangential stories, and meaning behind stories inspired by the cards in their hand. You may find that one story is a million stories or that a million stories are one story. Whatever the case, together, we will work together to make that story yours to own and do with whatever your heart desires.
At the end of class, students will discuss possible outlines and outputs for their newly discovered stories.
