POSTPONED. Rescheduled for Wednesday, June 10.

One night. One author. One focused study of the craft.

We’re pleased to welcome best-selling author Julie Iromuanya to the studio for this single-session master class on the skill of writers at the sentence-level. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to study with a master for an evening of close reading and in-depth discussion.

What we call style is more than literary flourishes. Control of a story begins with a writer’s characteristic approach to the line. Style dictates and shapes immersive and impactful worlds of our creation. It’s also indicative of a work’s larger themes and philosophies.

In this class, we’ll examine fiction by wordsmiths such as James Baldwin, Gabriel García Márquez, Toni Morrison, and Marguerite Duras in order to calculate the influence that elements such as diction, syntax, rhythm, and punctuation have on a writer’s style. We’ll put these techniques into practice through short revision exercises. Bring a short sample of your writing that you would like to energize at the line level.
