Description
Purchasing this room will put you in the Shearer Studio. This is an overnight purchase, with a private bathroom in either a dancer’s or composer’s studio.
This is for the January 18-23, 2026 week-long writing retreat with Cynthia Pelayo.
As part of Ragdale’s new series of Master Workshops, StoryStudio is proud to offer this week-long retreat experience.
Part retreat, part mini-residency, this Master Workshop for writers will focus on providing space and community for your work-in-progress. Outside of structured writing time and mini-lessons, the week has been crafted to provide ample writing time to yourself.
Theme for the week: A Creative Way, A Week of Creative Restoration
Maybe you’ve taken a short break from writing. Maybe you’ve taken a long break from writing. Maybe you just don’t quite know where to start. Creativity is a skill that we can always grow, nurture, and cultivate, and it is never lost. Many of us have experienced a creative pause, navigated major life events with career, family and health. Many of us also just work each day to manage the daily pressures of our day. So, how does one get back to a life of creativity after so much change? Where does one even start? During this week, we will look at some of the discussions and strategies from works such as Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way and Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act. We will talk about creative blocks, how do they happen, and how do we work through them. Through a series of inspirational discussions, writing prompts, and strategies, we will work together to break through creative blockages. Together we will learn how to incorporate writing into our lives so that we can take power, and find confidence, in our creative selves.
Unlike traditional workshops, this week-long retreat will be more consultation, generative, and discussion based.
There would also be slots during which participants will meet one-on-one with Cynthia to discuss an element of their writing that they want. There isn’t meant to be pre-reading of work, so this will not be workshop-based, but rather a conversation of your ideas, where you’re at in the process, discussing the publishing industry, etc.
The week begins with dinner on Sunday, and all meals are included through Friday brunch.
