Barry Pearce’s short story “Chez Whatever” was selected from more than 3,000 entries as the winner of the 2019 Nelson Algren Award. His short fiction has appeared in various publications, including The Colorado Review, The Cimarron Review, Other Voices, and The Chicago Tribune. He has an MFA in creative writing from New Mexico State University and a B.S. in journalism from Northwestern University. A native Chicagoan, Pearce has taught at Loyola University, UIC, New Mexico State, and the University of Oregon. In addition to writing fiction, he works as a freelance ghostwriter and has penned nonfiction books on everything from business to education to marriage.
