In this class we will examine characters that invite perception, and we’ll put what we learn to practice through writing exercises.
We’ll talk about how to mix genres and bend their “rules” to write memorable fiction.
Building imaginary worlds from the raw material of the real isn’t just a matter of research; it’s training your eye and ear to think like a writer, and learning to see your novel or your story come alive in the world around you.
This course will serve both as an introduction to poetry for prose writers as well as exploring how practiced poets can use fictional avenues rather than simply writing from the confessional, Lyric “I.”
