We build communities of storytellers trained to question, explore, celebrate, and change their worlds using the power of story.

Stories Matter Foundation is the umbrella organization for StoryStudio Chicago, Chicago Stories Project, Chicago Review of Books, and the Chicago Writers Podcast.

Our job is to spark creativity, keep imaginations flowing, and help our writers and storytellers throughout the region and beyond to navigate the process of writing and publishing.

A Place to Gather

Our humble roots as a place for writers to gather, collaborate, and support one another has only grown stronger. Even as we grow and expand, our core identity remains the same: a welcoming, encouraging place for writers and readers at all levels.

Evolution

We started as a writing class with four students, and have grown into an umbrella organization that includes a multitude of classes, the Chicago Review of Books , and our flagship Book In a Year experience. Our programming continues to reach further into our community with free programs through the Chicago Stories Project, write-ins, Master’s Awards, Writers Festival, and StoryBoard among our most popular events. Every year we add more opportunities for writers and readers to come together.

Community

Stories Matter Foundation fosters community among all writers and readers who come through our doors, whether online or in person. We are committed to expanding our partnerships with local organizations in Chicago and surrounding areas to reach deeper into the rich culture of story from our region.
