At StoryStudio Chicago, our goal is to build a writing community where writers, readers, and all literary-minded people can come together to learn, share, and grow in the creative arts. Writing can be a solitary art, but we know how much more pleasant it is when you have a supportive community to keep you focused and motivated.
StoryStudio Chicago is not just for awesome, inspiring classes (if you’re looking for classes, you can find them here). It’s also a place to build your own writing community.
Join us for Open Houses, Write-ins & Write-Outs, classes and workshops, panels, book events, parties, and more! We also frequently partner with Chicago literary arts institutions like the Chicago Public Library to offer free creative writing classes.
All these events and programs are great opportunities to expand your writing community, meet up with old friends, and do some writing. Check out our current list of free and community events below. You can also subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on social media to stay up to date.

Join StoryStudio for our periodic Write-Ins and Write-Outs. These are free, and we encourage you to join us as often as you’d like. Just register for the date below.
We’re taking Write-Ins outside of the studio! Join us for Write-Outs during the summer and fall at local breweries, coffee shops, and more. During the winter and spring, Write-Ins generally happen on Saturdays at the studio. Please make sure to register below!

These in-person classes for adults are each led by a StoryStudio instructor and focus on either memoir, fiction, or publishing. The classes are free but do require registration.

On Wednesday, December 2, join StoryStudio and CPL for our Write at CPL Celebration, a citywide celebration of writers and writing at Harold Washington Library Center. Come share your work, connect with other writers, get ideas on how to edit, learn about publishing options, and celebrate everything you’ve created this fall.
