Attend an Open House

StoryStudio Chicago offers free Open Houses several times a year, giving new writers the chance to see the studio, meet the staff, and write with us before signing up for a class. We’ll announce upcoming Open Houses in our newsletter.

We build communities of storytellers trained to question, explore, celebrate, and change their worlds using the power of story.

In 2019, we became a not-for-profit organization called Stories Matter Foundation to perpetuate storytelling beyond our own four walls in new ways and to new audiences. Our vision is to help others first see value in their stories, then acquire the skills and confidence to document and share them with others. Through a love of writing and storytelling, we also foster respect and appreciation for the lives and experiences of others.

StoryStudio Gives Back

We love knowing our neighbors near and far. That’s why every chance we get, StoryStudio partners with literary and neighborhood organizations. In 2013 we spent our 10th anniversary volunteering with a different community organization each month. In 2014 we changed from charging a fee for our write-in events and instead asked our writers to bring in food and supplies for our local shelter, Care for Real. Look for StoryStudio at events in our Ravenswood neighborhood and throughout Chicago in non-profit and city-sponsored initiatives.
